Hunters of Faenora takes place in the Kingdom of Faenora, a medieval fantasy realm in crisis. An ancient nethergate, thought to have been sealed forever, was breached, which unleashed corrupted creatures and (if the rumors are true) Netherlords into the Wildlands of Faenora. These Netherlords hold the power to corrupt, causing local wildlife to lash out in violence and twisting the beasts of the wild – gryphons, dragons and behemoths – to unleash chaos.

The King of Faenora sealed off the Wildlands as a containment initiative, although unsettling whispers suggest a less honorable truth. The entire Wildlands has been all but abandoned by the Kingdom.

The player assumes the role of a tactician operating from Donegal, a mercenary outpost established by decree of the King under General Faulkner. Officially, Hunters are celebrated as heroes reclaiming lost lands for the kingdom and rewarded with fortune and food. In reality, the program serves to exploit desperate adventurers, distract public unrest and obfuscate the origins of the Nethergate disaster.
