exclamationBattle Actions

In Faenora, victory isn’t just about who hits hardest. It’s about who acts fastest, smartest and most often.

Battle Actions are the heartbeat of combat. They determine how many times a unit can move, attack, heal or use skills within each battle round. Understanding them is the key to mastering the rhythm of battle or at least surviving long enough to look impressive doing so.

Battle Structure: The Three Layers of Combat

Every battle in Hunters of Faenora can be broken into three interconnected layers:

1. The Battle

This is the entire encounter. Victory is achieved when all enemies are defeated. Defeat, naturally, occurs when all friendly units are defeated. Smushed to dust. Tostados. (Try to avoid that.)

2. Battle Rounds

Each Battle Round is an invisible phase that encapsulates every unit’s actions — both friendly and enemy. During a round, every combatant acts in order based on their Speed (SPD) stat. Faster units act earlier; slower ones pick up the pieces.

3. Turns (AKA Battle Actions)

Within each Battle Round, a unit takes a number of turns equal to its Battle Actions. A unit’s Battle Actions determine how many times it can act before the next round begins.

For example:

  • A Squire in the front row may have 2 Battle Actions per round.

  • A Squire in the middle row may have 1 Battle Action per round. If that Squire moves between rows mid-round, the new number of actions only takes effect starting with the next Battle Round.

The result: positioning your units isn’t just about range or safety, it directly affects how often they can act.

Class and Row Dynamics

The number of Battle Actions a unit has in each row depends on its class (and sometimes its innate skills). As a rule of thumb:

  • Melee fighters tend to have more actions in the front row, where they thrive in close combat.

  • Ranged units gain more efficiency from back row positioning for extra opportunities to attack or support.

  • Support and hybrid classes may balance their actionality (it's a word now) between rows, adapting to the needs of the squad.

Some enemies follow these same patterns — others cheat. It’s the Wildlands, after all.

Tactical Considerations

Battle Actions determine tempo. A unit with more actions per round dictates the pace, controls space, and often decides the outcome. When planning your formation, consider:

  • Who should act the most often?

  • Who benefits most from extra turns (e.g. healers, buff units or high-ATK classes)?

  • Can your frontliners survive long enough to make their extra actions count?

In short, Battle Actions are opportunity and, in Faenora, opportunity is worth more than Fen.

Innate Skills that Impact Battle Actions

Some of the rarest innate skills in Faenora directly affect Battle Actions and they’re among the most coveted for a reason. A single skill can transform a reliable fighter into a relentless powerhouse that would be terrifying if he weren't so awesome. Two examples of such skills are below.

Innate Skill

Rarity

Effect

Professional

Legendary

Adds +1 Battle Action in every row. In the hands of a skilled tactician, this can turn an ordinary unit into a relentless storm of attacks.

Keener

Epic

Adds +1 Battle Action in the front row. A favorite among melee Hunters who prefer not to wait their turn.

The Art of Timing

Speed may decide when you act, but Battle Actions decide how much you can do before the world hits back. Mastering both is the mark of a true tactician. Everyone else just prays their healer’s still conscious.
